Although, as noted above, copper artifacts rarely occur in Ubaid sites in southern Mesopotamia proper, significant amounts of this exotic metal do seem to have been traded over long distances to supply the elites who were buried in the Susa necropole in the Susa I/terminal Ubaid period (Moorey 1994: 256).
